Silver Award

  • Craig Halpin - St Helens, Merseyside

When Craig and his friends were viciously attacked by a drunken group in May 2008, one of them was singled out for the most appalling treatment as he was kicked in the head and stamped on. Despite the injuries he had already received, Craig threw himself over his friend’s prone figure and used his own body to protect his head from further injury. His friend’s injuries were serious and lasting, but would certainly have proved fatal without Craig’s bravery.

  • Walter Stanley - Spital, Wirral

In December 2008, 82 year old Walter Stanley was the only person on a crowded road to come to the aid of a man being assaulted so violently that his shoulder was dislocated. Despite his frailty and having to balance himself with a stick, he took hold of the offender before being knocked to the ground himself. His intervention spurred onlookers into action and the attack was halted.

  • David Williams - Bebington, Wirral

When a knife wielding offender tried to rob a bank in August 2008, beating the security guard to the floor, David sprung into action, kicking the offender. He fled without cash but not before seriously injuring David as he stabbed him in the stomach.

  • Amanda Janes & Susan Ginger - London

In September 2006 a young woman was murdered by her ex-partner as she collected her child from nursery school. Amanda & Susan fought with the attacker to stop him before snatching the child from the car with barely a second to spare as he fled the scene. The attacker took his own life minutes afterwards and there can be no doubt that their actions saved the child’s life.

  • James Pride & Daniel O'Donaghue - Cardiff

Two Cardiff doormen ran to investigate the sound of smashing glass in a car park in January 2009 and came face to face with a would be car thief. Despite being threatened with a knife, which he swung at James’s throat, the two men overpowered and restrained him until the police arrived.
